Softball winners

Here is a shot of the winning team (1/2 of the guys are from Delta) at the Golden Days Softball Tournament in Fairbanks this past weekend. Photographer Michael Kingston said, "We had to come back from the losers bracket and play (and WIN) 5 games on Sunday!"

Several of Delta's master gardeners volunteered their time to plant gardens and flowers at the Sullivan Roadhouse and the Visitor Center this summer.   Sheryl Mills from the Delta Chamber of Commerce sent this picture along with a note saying how much the Chamber appreciates their efforts.  The rest of us do, too!  From right to left are: Cinde Stam-Wear, Elaine Shannon, Bob Carpenter, Ray Dinger and Christy Roden.

Atop Mt. Edgecumbe, a dormant volcano near Sitka

Kluane Lake

These three pictures are from Delta Junction Boy Scout Troop 56's recent trek to Sitka. The first picture is taken along Kluane Lake from the Soldiers Summit overlook. Our main goal was to spend four days on Kruzof Island and climb the dormant volcano, Mt. Edgecumbe. We had great weather for the climb (pictures 2 and 3). We were also able to explore Sitka's many trails, and learn of it's exciting Russian and Indian culture. Those participating in the trek are Uriah and Curtis Fellman, Matt Sharp, Jason Morgan, Mike Vecchiarelli, Trenton Zachgo, Caleb Parker, Troy Hawkins, and Fronty Parker.

New Delta Junction Website Nearly Complete

An improved website describing many facets of the Delta Junction area is nearing completion, and the editors are looking for corrections and improvements in the text.

The website is a project of the Delta Convention and Visitor's Bureau.  The recent update was made possible through a grant from the Delta Chamber of Commerce.

Design work for the substantial upgrade project was done by Northwest Web Craft, parent of the Delta News Web, and three students in Mr. Brannan's Desktop Publishing Class at Delta High School.  The students are Brian Aillaud, Jennifer Bealer, and Cale Wingfield.

Most of the information in the website came from the Delta Junction brochure originally compiled by the Delta Wind, and from material assembled by Chris Christopherson.

Some of the material is now out of date, and the editors of the new project are asking the community for additions, corrections, and improvements in the text.

The new website contains almost 50 individual web pages and many photos.  A site map can be found here.

Richardson Highway Washout

Richardson Highway washout
Donna Gardino snapped this photo of the One Mile Creek Bridge at MP 228 of the Richardson Highway on Tuesday morning (7/11) around 10:30 AM. The washout rendered the Richardson Highway impassable. Over 8 foot of debris covered the bridge. Gardino reported on Tuesday that the road may be closed for several days.  It has since been reopened.

Hoary marmot on Donnelly Dome
Hoary marmots are a not-uncommon resident of Alaska's foothills and mountains.  This one was at Donnelly Dome.  The presence of the photographer was tolerable because there is always the hope for a handout!  Delta News Web photo.
