Delta/Clearwater Dart League Update As
the 2003/2004 league president I'd like to remind all players and
sponsors that they should start planning for the upcoming season.
We need to have a General Membership meeting to plan the season
and discuss any changes to the rules or bylaws. The meeting will
be held at the Alaskan Steakhouse on 21 September 2003 at 6:00
p.m.
A matter of utmost importance is that we do not currently have a
Secretary/Treasurer for the League. I'd like to thank Kathy
Probert for the many years she has dedicated to the office, and
Esta Hover for stepping forward to fill her shoes, who however
will be unable to serve due to an employment opportunity.
I'm hopeful someone will step forward and volunteer their time for
this most important position. The duties of the secretary/treasure
include: notify members of meetings, keep and read minutes of
league meetings, schedule league play, handle correspondence and
announcements, compile league standings and statistics, handle
league finances, collect money from sponsoring establishments,
keep records of income and expenses and may be one of the two
signatures required on the DCDL savings account.
This job requires a computer and associated skills, patience and
dedication. Also, writing articles to the Delta Wind concerning
standings and upcoming events are appreciated by all members.
For the past two years we have started league play on the first
Thursday in October. This year that will fall on the 2nd. I can
honestly say that we need to have a new Secretary/Treasurer in
place by the General Membership meeting on 21 September or there
will not be Dart League play this season. Joe Crandall --

share something, please pass the word on.
We enjoy reading about your activities and news
and so does the general public. Thanks for being a part of

Sand Creek Fire update - Monday - June 30
Delta, AK -Today at 12:00p command of the Sand Creek wildfire
transferred to a smaller Type 3 team. Fire protection sprinklers
and hoses will remain in
place at upriver cabins for the near future. Two crews are
positioned at strategic locations along the Goodpaster River with
pumps in the event they
are needed. Fire personnel will continue to secure fire line
around the Southwestern edge near Liscum Slough and monitor
hotspots in the Northwest
near Shaw Creek.
Forestry is assisting local property owners in the Goodpaster
drainage with information about creating defensible space around
cabins. Depending on winds, residents in the Delta area may smell
smoke from a wildfire to the north in the Salcha drainage.
Fire information is located at Delta Forestry.

Sand Creek Fire update - Sunday, June 29
Delta, AK – Crews on the Sand Creek Fire are continuing to pack
up fire fighting equipment to send it back to Delta, prior to the
crews being sent home. Some hose and sprinklers are being left at
the upper Goodpaster cabins for protection, and pumps will be left
with crews remaining in the area, but most other equipment and
crew gear is being pulled off the fire as the crews prepare to
leave.
The 44,150 acre fire has not changed significantly in the last two
days and the priority is finishing securing the line on the
southern perimeter along Liscom Slough. Three crews will continue
that work today and two will remain on the fire Monday. Fire
managers said yesterday’s rain cooled the fire and raised the
humidity, helping crews in their efforts. Today, however, is
expected to be sunny and warm with no further chance of rain which
could test the security of that line.
Monday morning, the fire will be turned over to the local Delta
Forestry Office as the Type 2 Team departs for Fairbanks. A Type 3
organization will continue to monitor the fire and assess needs on
a daily basis. Work with property owners on defensible space will
continue.

Small Grizzly Bear Fales Road /Jack Warren
At 6am, Thurs. morning, 6/26/03, I observed a small Grizzly
heading north across Fales Rd., about 1/3 of the way down from
Jack Warren. At first I thought it was a black bear but as I got
closer I saw the hump and the coloring of a young Grizzly. It
paused in the road to look at my truck and then scampered off into
the bushes. It's appeared to be about 2 years old. I want to let
my neighbors know because several of them have livestock. Please
pass this info on to anyone you know in that area and if you need
to reach me, call 895-4726. Thanks!
