Ft. Greely School May Newsletter

Parent Information Meeting
Parents are invited to visit with our school counselor and principal as we discuss the current schedule, program, and policies of Fort Greely School and look ahead towards changes for the next school year. A special focus will be placed on students transitioning from 5th grade to 6th grade. The meeting will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3rd in the school Conference Center.

Fort Greely School Idol
Due to high student interest, Fort Greely School Idol has been rescheduled for Friday, May 5th starting at 1:00 p.m. All parents are invited to attend!

Delta High School Freshman Orientation
Delta High School will host a freshman orientation on Monday, May 8th starting at 6:00 p.m. for current 8th grade students. Academic and after school programs, eligibility requirements per ASSA, office procedures, credits, and general high school policies will be discussed. All incoming freshman and parents are encouraged to attend.

Kids Don’t Float Presentation
Maureen Gardner, parent and National Park Ranger, will present the “Kids Don’t Float” water safety program to all Fort Greely School 6th grade students on Tuesday, May 9th during their science class. For more information on the program, contact Mrs. Gardner at 895-2113.

5th Grade Orientation
As part of our focus on the transition from elementary to middle school, Fort Greely School will host a 5th grade orientation for current Delta Elementary School students on Friday, May 12th starting at 9:00 a.m. The orientation will begin with an assembly at DES, followed by a bus ride for all 5th grade students to Fort Greely School for a tour of the facility and a chance to meet with several of the 6th grade teachers. Student expectations, handbook policies, and general school procedures will be discussed. Students will be returned to DES prior to their lunch.

Operation Clean Sweep
Fort Greely School, in cooperation with the agencies on Fort Greely, will again be participating in the “Operation Clean Sweep.” Students will be broken into groups and assigned an area of the school premises or Fort Greely to beautify. The clean up activity will take place on the afternoon of Friday, May 12th.

Last Day of School for Students
Friday, May 26th will be last day of school for students. We are planning a field day complete with end of the year awards, the 6th Grade DARE Program Graduation, and a BBQ lunch that will be held at the Fort Greely pavilion. Parents are encouraged to attend to celebrate the end of this school year. Final report cards will be mailed home the week of May 29th.
