Photo of the Day - June 20

Shemya Island McDonalds Sign: This is of course a big joke! Someone put this sign on the island years ago and everyone that comes to the island likes to get their picture here! Shemya Island is 2 miles x 4 miles, no trees and the wind blows all the time. And the rain and snow never come down straight but always sideways! Shemya Island has the Bering Sea on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other, we get the weather from both sides, its ever changing, but mostly blowing wind and some kind of moisture in either snow, fog or rain. Shemya Island is beautiful, but very barren, no trees but lots of migratory fowl and in the summer gorgeous wildflowers of every kind and wild grass. Photo Courtesy Karen Gortmaker
