Photo of the Day - July 8
Gray-cheeked thrushes are usually fairly secretive birds when on their wintering grounds in central and South America. But when they arrive on their breeding grounds in the boreal forest of Alaska and Canada, the males sit in the tops of trees and sing to announce their presence to the world (but mainly to other gray-cheeked thrushes) like this male that was photographed near Delta recently. Gray-cheeked thrushes are one of 5 thrush species in this area, with the others being robins, varied thrush, hermit thrush, and Swainson's thrush.Photo Courtesy Steve DuBois
