Fort Greely School - cross country parent letter
Dear Fort Greely School X-C (Cross-Country) Parent,
We’re starting the school year running, literally! You may not know it by looking at me, but in a past life I ran on a high school X-C team that competed at the state level in Pennsylvania. While I was a teacher, I also coached several high school X-C teams. I am looking forward to the opportunity of sharing my knowledge and experience with your child. Any students wishing to participate at an X-C practice must first have:
1. A recent school physical,
2. Have paid the $75 Student Participation Fee,
3. A ride home when practice has ended (pickups will always be where we start practice).
A schedule for practice times for August is copied for you on the back of this letter. We are very fortunate in Delta Junction as we have miles and miles of nearby trails with assorted terrain, and I plan on varying the location of practices to keep things interesting, which may require changes to the published schedule. If a practice is to go longer than expected, I will send written notification home with your child in writing; it is their responsibility that it makes its way to you. We will be traveling to compete at meets in Fairbanks this year, and you will find the meet schedule on the September practice calendar. Again, any student who meets the above criteria is encouraged to participate, however, to travel to meets a student must be considered eligible as stated in our sports eligibility policy, listed in the student handbook. My expectations for each student athlete are as follows:
. Always think safety first,
. Attend all practices,
. Maintain a running log,
. Follow practice schedule and rest when you are told,
. Remain eligible so you can compete, and
. Have a good time!
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at the school (869-3105).
Sincerely,
Brian J. Schaffer
Fort Greely School Principal, X-C Coach
