Military Personnel and Overseas Citizens May Request Special Advance Absentee Ballot
The Division of Elections encourages Alaska residents serving in the military stationed outside of Alaska, and overseas citizens to consider immediately applying for a special advance absentee ballot for the November 7, 2006 General Election. Special advance absentee ballots are available now, upon request, and only until October 6. Concern about potential mail delivery delays beyond the control of the military and the Division is prompting the Alaska Division of Elections to remind military and overseas voters of this option.
“We are making every effort to ensure that our military personnel are able to cast their vote in a timely manner,” said Whitney Brewster, Director of the Division of Elections. “These special advance absentee ballots are their best option.”
A voter must specifically request the ballot via an application by checking Box 15 on the absentee ballot application. The application is on the Division’s web site .
Submit your completed special advance absentee ballot by:
1. Mail: Division of Elections Absentee Voting Office, 619 E. Ship Creek Ave., Ste. 329, Anchorage, AK 99501-1677.
2. Fax: You may fax your completed application to the Absentee Voting Office at 907-677-9943.
3. In Person: You may drop off your completed application at any Division of Elections office if you are being deployed outside of Alaska.
Ballots must be postmarked no later than November 7 to be counted. November 22 is the deadline for the Division to receive by-mail ballots from overseas and military addresses. If you have questions about voting absentee, contact the Absentee Voting Office at (907) 375-6400 or via email .
