This White-tailed ptarmigan was observed in the granite Mts. this last weekend; it was burrowing into the snow to escape detection. This species of ptarmigan is uncommon north of the Alaska Range. It is smaller in size and does not have black markings on the tail feathers as the willow ptarmigan does. Photo Courtesy Fronty Parker
