Look closely at the stalk of aquatic vegetation still underwater and you will see a damselfly nymph that is holding on. These nymphs will climb out of the water on stalks of vegetation and then transform into the terrestrial form of the damselfly that we commonly see flying around. As the larva grow they can shed their skin 10 times before attaining adulthood. They have excellent vision, their large eyes have 10,000 facets to absorb light and can rotate their heads almost 360 degrees. These are voracious eaters, they eat other smaller insects, and some of the larger dragonflies even capture small fish to eat. Photo Courtesy Fronty Parker
