Deployment Exercises - Test
FORT WAINWRIGHT, Alaska – Garrison employees will conduct a deployment exercise here beginning Monday, October 29.
“The exercise will validate the process for a quick deployment,” said Felicia Jackson, garrison operations officer.
The 25th Brigade Support Battalion and 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry will participate in the exercise, as well as employees of Shaw Contractors and the Alaska Railroad.
Residents and visitors on post will see increased traffic and activity at the Alert Holding Area, and shuttle buses moving Soldiers through post. The buses are for the exercise only, and not for other purposes by personnel not participating in the exercise. The garrison is also working with Eielson Air Force Base, where planes loaded with equipment by garrison personnel will fly to Allen Army Airfield at Fort Greely to simulate a deployment.
The Shaw and ARR employees will augment a rail outload, alleviating the necessity to use Soldiers in that capacity.
“It’s essentially a test of the support the garrison provides in a deployment,” Jackson said. “It tells us what we’re doing right and where we need improvement so we can help the units deploy quickly and efficiently when they receive orders.”
The exercise is expected to last until Thursday evening.
