MOPS News

Well, we are off to a great start this year. We have had two meetings, over 30 women, and about 40-50 preschoolers. Our theme for this year is “The Home Factor.” We are learning to find contentment wherever we are, to make a home that our families want to come home to no matter what kind of a house we live in whether it be an apartment, base housing, a cabin, a well-coordinated home, or an igloo, we want to come home and feel like we’re Home.

The first two meeting have gone great! Good food, great adult conversation, and loads of laughs! This month we meet again on Tuesday, October 16th at 10:00am at the First Baptist Church on the Richardson Highway, then again on Tuesday, November 6th. We will be doing a craft so be ready to use that part of your brain that is collecting dust because you can’t seem to get past the part of laying everything out to make that quilt or scrapbook without being interrupted with a request for a band aid or a cheese stick. We want to flex those creative muscles we know are there somewhere, just like the ones that are covered with that soft squishy layer called…a baby belly. Speaking of exercise we have been meeting twice a week for dance aerobics (plus stretching and abs) on Mondays and Wednesday mornings from 9-10am at the activities building gym next to the First Baptist Church. Young children are welcome; they can play while we work out. Bring a large towel, 2lb weights, water, and snacks for your children. We dance and have a blast getting in shape. Invite your friends; all women of any age are welcome.

We have also started our weekly playgroups meeting in the same gym as aerobics on Thursday mornings from 10-11:30am. Mothers with young children are welcome, please no day care groups. I am happy to announce that our monthly “Mom’s Night Out” will start up again this month on October 20th we will be meeting at Adam’s Ribs in the back room at 6:00pm. Mom’s only, no children please unless you are nursing of course, we will never turn anyone away especially a newborn baby. Be ready to laugh your bellies off, we have never had a night that didn’t last hours and end with sore cheeks from smiling all night. Your husbands will thank you for going, it is a nice chance to pull that “old you” out of the closet for a date. And yes, we do get dressed up on occasion.

Lots of exciting stuff is happening here at MOPS this year. It’s not just a two hour meeting twice a month. We have things going all the time and friendships growing in the process. We are here to support each other through this sometimes difficult (but always worth it) phase of mothering because “better moms make a better world.” Come home to MOPS!
