Deployment Ceremony
FORT WAINWRIGHT, Alaska – Task Force 49 will hold a deployment ceremony at the Physical Fitness Center here Nov. 13 at 10 a.m. U.S. Army Alaska's aviation brigade will honor soldiers from the unit’s Headquarters and Headquarters Company who will deploy to Iraq this month.
While deployed, the unit will be one of four aviation-brigade headquarters and will provide full-spectrum aviation support to units in the theater. Officials expect the deployment to last approximately 9 months.
The task force headquarters of approximately 130 soldiers includes pilots and staff personnel to lead and support aviation units in Iraq. Soldiers from other units, including the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division; 1st Battalion, 52nd Aviation Regiment; 6th Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment; U.S. Army Alaska and U.S. Army Pacific Headquarters round out the Task Force 49 Headquarters to fully staff it as a medium combat aviation brigade to accomplish their mission in Iraq.
Task Force 49 remains responsible for aviation support in Alaska.
