Fort Wainright - Deployment Ceremony
FORT WAINWRIGHT, Alaska – The soldiers of Task Force 49 and 6th Squadron, 17th Cavalry will hold a deployment ceremony at the parade field on Fort Wainright, Thursday at 3 p.m. to honor soldiers deploying to Iraq.
While deployed, the unit will provide aerial reconnaissance and air support in the area of operations. Officials expect the deployment to last 12 months. The 6-17 Cav. will maintain a rear detachment here to handle administrative tasks.
The public is invited to attend the ceremony. Visitors will need to stop at the main gate visitors’ center with driver’s license, insurance and vehicle registration to secure installation passes.
