New EOD Unit March 08, 2010
Fort Wainwright, Alaska, Mar. 8, - A new explosive ordnance disposal unit will stand up at Fort Wainwright, Wednesday, Mar. 10, in an activation ceremony.
The 65th Explosive Ordnance Disposal will be activated in a ceremony at Fort Wainwright's Last Frontier Community Center Wednesday at 1 p.m.
The unit began forming on Jun. 2, 2009 when the first Soldiers were assigned to the unit. Ten months later the unit has gained more than 23 Soldiers and is expected to grow to more than 40.
The unit's mission is to provide responsive explosive ordnance disposal and emergency response support; and to prepare to deploy in support of combatant commanders.
