Two brothers...Six musicians...

For over fifteen years, Les Yeux Noirs (The Black Eyes) have been carving their own path down the road of Gypsy and klezmer music. Led by two violin-wielding brothers Eric and Olivier Slabiak, Les Yeux Noirs is a high-energy celebration of history and life itself.

The Slabiaks grew up in Paris in a family of musicians soaked in Gypsy and Manouche music, listening and playing with family pals from the Hot Club of France. In 1992, they combined their triple cultures of classical, rock and Gypsy and founded Les Yeux Noirs, traveling the world, performing their original music.

Les Yeux Noirs is guaranteed to have Interior audiences smiling and dancing, captivated by their high energy and gypsy spirit.

Everybody's got the fever. You will too when you hear Les Yeux Noirs!

The Upcoming Census and Questions that Will be Asked

The U.S. Census counts every resident in the United States, and is required by the Constitution to take place every 10 years.
The 2010 Census will help communities receive more than $400 billion in federal funds each year for things like:
  • Hospitals
  • Job training centers
  • Schools
  • Senior centers
  • Bridges, tunnels and other-public works projects
  • Emergency services
The data collected by the census also help determine the number of seats your state has in the U.S. House of Representatives.

We can't move forward until you mail it back.

In March of 2010, census forms will be delivered to every residence in the United States and Puerto Rico. When you receive yours, just answer the 10 short questions and then mail the form back in the postage-paid envelope provided. If you don't mail the form back, you may receive a visit from a census taker, who will ask you the questions from the form.

The majority of the country will receive English–only materials. Households in areas with high concentrations of Spanish-speaking residents may receive a bilingual (English/Spanish) form.

Any personal data you provide is protected under federal law.

Look For Your Census Form In Mid-March
10 questions. 10 minutes. Discover how we collect the data that matters.

How many people were living or staying in this house, apartment, or mobile home on April 1, 2010?

We ask this question to help get an accurate count of the number of people in the household on Census Day, April 1, 2010. The answer should be based on the guidelines in the 'Start here' section. We use the information to ensure response accuracy and completeness and to contact respondents whose forms have incomplete or missing information.

Were there any additional people staying here April 1, 2010 that you did not include in Question 1?

Asked since 1880. We ask this question to help identify people who may have been excluded in the count provided in Question 1. We use the information to ensure response accuracy and completeness and to contact respondents whose forms have incomplete or missing information.

Is this house, apartment, or mobile home: owned with mortgage, owned without mortgage, rented, occupied without rent?

Asked since 1890. Homeownership rates serve as an indicator of the nation's economy. The data are also used to administer housing programs and to inform planning decisions.

What is your telephone number?

We ask for a phone number in case we need to contact a respondent when a form is returned with incomplete or missing information.

Please provide information for each person living here. Start with a person here who owns or rents this house, apartment, or mobile home. If the owner or renter lives somewhere else, start with any adult living here. This will be Person 1. What is Person 1's name?

Listing the name of each person in the household helps the respondent to include all members, particularly in large households where a respondent may forget who was counted and who was not. Also, names are needed if additional information about an individual must be obtained to complete the census form. Federal law protects the confidentiality of personal information, including names.

What is Person 1's sex?

Asked since 1790. Census data about sex are important because many federal programs must differentiate between males and females for funding, implementing and evaluating their programs. For instance, laws promoting equal employment opportunity for women require census data on sex. Also, sociologists, economists, and other researchers who analyze social and economic trends use the data.

What is Person 1's age and Date of Birth?

Asked since 1800. Federal, state, and local governments need data about age to interpret most social and economic characteristics, such as forecasting the number of people eligible for Social Security or Medicare benefits. The data are widely used in planning and evaluating government programs and policies that provide funds or services for children, working-age adults, women of childbearing age, or the older population.

Is Person 1 of Hispanic, Latino or Spanish origin?

Asked since 1970. The data collected in this question are needed by federal agencies to monitor compliance with anti-discrimination provisions, such as under the Voting Rights Act and the Civil Rights Act. State and local governments may use the data to help plan and administer bilingual programs for people of Hispanic origin.

What is Person 1's race?

Asked since 1790. Race is key to implementing many federal laws and is needed to monitor compliance with the Voting Rights Act and the Civil Rights Act. State governments use the data to determine congressional, state and local voting districts. Race data are also used to assess fairness of employment practices, to monitor racial disparities in characteristics such as health and education and to plan and obtain funds for public services.

Does Person 1 sometimes live or stay somewhere else?

This is another question we ask in order to ensure response accuracy and completeness and to contact respondents whose forms have incomplete or missing information.

All of the information has been printed from the 2010 Census website:

Hit the Brakes Before Accepting This RV and Camping Offer

Research and Verify Before Subscribing To Vacation and Travel Programs

Anchorage, Alaska – March 9, 2010 – With camping season just down the road, RV owners are planning their vacations and some travel programs may be trying to capitalize on consumers' hopes to land a good deal.

In the early months of 2010, Better Business Bureau received 219 consumer inquiries on Ultimate RV Camping—a documented increase compared to 35 inquiries in the last half of 2009. Due to its failure to respond to complaints, this business has an "F" rating with your BBB.

Ultimate RV Camping also goes by Ultimate RV Tool, Internet Camping, Internet Camping Family and JAD Holdings. It advertises the 'Ultimate RV Travel Tool' as "the quickest, easiest way to search, browse, and reserve North America's most popular RV parks … INSTANTLY!" Sites like ultimatervcamping.com, internetcamping.com, and internetcamping.net entice vacationers with a free limited time offer of a RV park computer program guide with a directory of over 17,000 camping sites, including discounts at participating resorts.

Complainants allege that upon contacting the supposed directory members, they discovered the listed camping sites and resorts are not affiliated with the 'Ultimate RV Travel Tool' and no discounts are available. Additionally, consumers say they paid for the "free" offer and are unable to obtain a refund or take advantage of the advertised money back guarantee.

According to BBB's research, Ultimate RV Camping claims locations in University Place, Buckley and Bonney Lake, Wash. and is operated by Craig Kirkland.

Tucson-based Internet Camping appears to be affiliated with Ultimate RV Camping and has accrued several unresolved complaints, resulting in an "F" rating from BBB serving Southern Arizona.

With spring break rapidly approaching, BBB serving Alaska, Oregon and Western Washington cautions vacationers to be on the lookout for travel offers that seem too good to be true:
  • Steer clear of vacation programs that solicit with high pressure limited time offers.
  • Beware of companies that claim affiliation with big name resorts or camp sites, but can't provide proof. Contact the resort to confirm affiliation.
  • Look out for companies with overhyped products, services, or fabricated testimonials on Web sites. If in doubt, ask for past-customer references.
  • Be careful when signing up for free offers and make sure not to click links and check boxes for costly, unwanted offers. Carefully read the fine print and any disclaimers before pressing 'submit.'
  • Before making a purchase, look up the company and program name online. Always check on http://www.bbb.org/  for free business reliability reports and tips.

The Last Great Race on Earth

The race is on.  IDITAROD XXXVIII started on Saturday, March 6, at 10am in Anchorage.

You can’t compare it to any other competitive event in the world! A race over 1150 miles of the roughest, most beautiful terrain Mother Nature has to offer. She throws jagged mountain ranges, frozen river, dense forest, desolate tundra and miles of windswept coast at the mushers and their dog teams. Add to that temperatures far below zero, winds that can cause a complete loss of visibility, the hazards of overflow, long hours of darkness and treacherous climbs and side hills, and you have the Iditarod. A race extraordinaire, a race only possible in Alaska.

See the Iditarod website for more information and the current standings.

Iridium Providing Media for 2010 Iditarod Sled Dog Race

IRIDIUM Provides Satellite Voice and Data Communications for 2010 Iditarod Sled Dog Race
Global Satellite Company Teams with Service Partners to Provide Vital Safety Lifeline for Mushers, Dogs and Volunteers

Bethesda, Md. – March 4, 2010 – Iridium Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: IRDM) is teaming with its service partners, Satcom Global (Americas) and IonEarth, to provide satellite voice and data services for the Iditarod® Sled Dog Race, which begins March 5 in Anchorage, Alaska.

IonEarth is equipping each of the participating sleds with a lightweight battery-powered GPS tracking device, which will transmit the sled’s location, speed, heading, altitude and air temperature every 15 minutes through the Iridium satellite network to provide a vital safety communications lifeline for the race’s mushers, dogs and volunteers. Race officials and fans can view the latest position and status of each competitor on a 3-D map on the Iditarod Website . This not only comes in handy for race monitoring, but also because it allows for a regular stream of data on the racers and sled dogs. The racers themselves will not be able to view the data from the trackers in the field, preserving the tradition of self-sufficiency and independence in competing against each other and fighting the elements.

Satcom Global (Americas) is deploying 55 Iridium satellite phones which will be used by race officials and volunteers during the race.

The Iditarod trail, which snakes across more than 1,000 miles through the Alaskan wilderness from Anchorage to Nome, covers some of the world’s harshest terrain. Most of the route – particularly through the center of Alaska – is not covered by terrestrial landlines, cellular networks or other satellite communication services.

“Iridium is the only satellite system providing reliable coverage in all of Alaska,” said Stan Hooley, executive director of the Iditarod Trail Committee (ITC). “The Iridium tracking devices and phone handsets will again provide a critical safety lifeline for mushers, dogs, veterinarians, medics, media, bush pilots and volunteers who man the isolated checkpoints along the trail.”

“This is the second year ITC is requiring our satellite tracking devices as mandatory safety equipment on all sleds competing in the Iditarod,” said Jerry Miller, president of IonEarth. “For the 2010 race, we are introducing new features, such as a ‘Race at a Glance’ iPhone® application enabling fans to follow the racers from the palms of their hands. Also new this year is a live replay capability that lets viewers turn the clock back to any point in the race.”

“Organizations and individuals who live, work and travel in Alaska have learned to rely on Iridium satellite phones as their critical communication lifeline to the outside world,” said Teri Petram, director of sales and marketing, Satcom Global (Americas). “Iridium is the only choice when it comes to reliable communication in the large portions of Alaska’s frontier regions beyond the reach of cellular networks. There are no alternatives.”

Greg Ewert, executive vice president of global distribution channels for Iridium, observed that the satellite data technology employed in IonEarth’s devices is also being deployed for tracking remote assets all around the world. “Mobile data is Iridium’s fastest growing business area,” he said. “Every day, our satellite network is being used to track vehicles, aircraft, shipping containers, construction equipment, supplies and individuals globally.”

About Iridium Communications Inc.

Iridium Communications Inc. is the only mobile satellite service (MSS) company offering coverage over the entire globe. Iridium has launched a major development program for its next-generation satellite constellation, Iridium NEXT. The company is headquartered in Bethesda, Md., U.S.A. and trades on the NASDAQ Global Market under the ticker symbols IRDM (common stock), IRDMW ($7.00 warrants), IRDMZ ($11.50 warrants) and IRDMU (units).

The Iditarod Sled Dog Race billed as the “Last Great Race on Earth,” runs from Anchorage, in south central Alaska, to Nome on the western Bering Sea. The racers will cover almost 1,000 miles in 10-17 days. The iconic competition pays homage to the mushers who, in 1925, raced across the Alaskan wilderness to deliver needed diphtheria serum to Nome via the Iditarod Trail mail routes.
